Do We Have A Map?

One consequence of man’s uniquely powerful mind is that the development and application of technology forms an intrinsic and hence natural part of his existence, and it is how and why it is developed and applied that determines exactly how much it enhances or diminishes his ability to make a positive contribution.

Technology can enhance man’s physical and mental strength and senses, allowing him to better explore, understand and exploit the world around him.  In particular, the development of the technology of spoken language allowed him to exchange ideas and begin to ask fundamental questions such as ‘where are we?’, ‘where have we come from?’ and ‘where are we going?’

Written language allowed this knowledge to be developed and refined over generation after generation, ever accelerating from spark to raging torrent that no one mind can fully hold, whilst wisdom lagged behind; speaking softly, gasping for air, grasping to hold on.

It’s time for wisdom to take the lead: to man the watchtower, light the lighthouse, master the knowledge and chart the course.

Spirits In The Material World

Our lives are not defined by the physical, material things that surround us, but by the way that they are lived and intertwined with others and with nature.  It’s not that austerity and a total absence of material things, apart from those essential for basic physical survival, is the right way, but that the attachment of meaning to objects fades as the focus shifts to others, and it is how these objects allow us to better interact, communicate thoughts and feelings, and learn and help to make life and lives better, and the world a better place.

If applied with humanity and wisdom, our experience and understanding of reality, shared with others and built up over millennia, can let us extend our capabilities and fully express what evolution has fashioned us for.  Through the continually evolving technologies that shape and facilitate our interactions with the world and with others, our imaginations can be harnessed and focussed both on  personal and societal growth and on finding suitable responses to the issues that science, culture, art and engineering unveil.

Express Yourself...

Love is centred on man’s role in nature, and her happiness on how well she fulfils it.  And in the end it is not some set down rules but what feels right that matters.

Let the music play; swim as schools of fish, learning and playing the rhythm of life together as one. Dance in a sea of natural highs until dawn.  Set your spirit free and go your own way, as happiness forms a strong base for joy, bliss, ecstasy and wonder.  Be expressive, creative, exhilarated, imaginative; find your innermost being and fuse your body and soul.

Yet in this deep connectedness and deep joy remember love’s responsibility to care for others and nurture all, consuming life not material things, dancing as Sufi’s dance; laughing and smiling and spinning until giddy and consumed by the pleasure of being alive in the moment.

And for man there is much, much, more than the sensual pleasure of living and connecting through music and dance; the body and soul; there is the mind, exploring and sharing a world of imagination through the arts; painting and drawing new worlds and emotions with brushes and pencils and words, moulding a new reality, interplaying facts and fiction and dreams to express one’s innermost beliefs and hopes and fears.

Through the language of symbols she captures and communicates the essence of her dreams and understanding, and with written and spoken English and Maths and Science, and all the other myriad interwoven languages of this world, she expresses her reality for others to listen to and hear, to sense and understand and call back to.

And so through language man has, over the millennia, built an immense framework of information and culture and expressed imagination and knowledge and understanding which is open for all to grow, if only one listens and is allowed to hear.  So when you hear, call back and stake your claim on life; make every breath you take and every thought you have count.

Dissolve Into Selfless

When the ego dissolves and one walks through life truly cooperatively with others, true contentment and happiness can be achieved; and if enough people in this world have their eyes opened to this state of being, the oneness required to achieve the truly coherent action which can bring us into a lasting, sustainable future may be attained.

Over four billion years of evolution can’t be wrong…

As explained in https://jamescmorrow.blogspot.com/, evolution offers man maximum happiness and fulfilment through doing all he can to nurture and protect his fellow man and the environment within which he lives.  Achieving a oneness with others and all life, and continually learning how to be more sensitive and better attuned to the needs of others, the pleasure and immediacy of being with nature is coupled with man’s uniquely sensitive and powerful mind, allowing him to both experience the now, and remember, relive and learn from it.

The core of happiness and fulfilment is interacting, experiencing, helping and learning.
